In The Spotlight

We have been in the news and we want to share the fun stuff with you. How do you feel when the spot light is on you? I am not sure how long we get to hold onto the title of NEW business owners, but seriously, something new is happening for us every time we turn around. And each of us in our own ways is learning how to be successful owners of a thriving business and be in the spotlight.

A journalist and Founder of she.work, Pinar Reyhan Ozyigit, reached out to us to ask us for an interview. As busy people, entrepreneurs, and moms, we had several reschedules for this interview. But when it happened it was wonderful. We were asked questions that we really hadn't thought about or shared the answers with someone outside of the business. It was cathartic in many ways for all of us. And what I saw, is that we love our business, Creative Jam Art Co., and what we do matters in a bigger context.

Inaugural Grants to Local Artists Continue Louise Lauretano DeMars’ Legacy

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, a reception was held to honor two Bristol-based artists who were the inaugural recipients of grants from the Louise Lauretano DeMars Love of Art Fund at Main Street Community Foundation. Marlo Marrero and Nigel Wynter each received $5,000 to further their artistic growth.

Marlo's response about receiving the grant.

For the love of Art, please keep this grant going! For the love of Art, support artists and their dreams. For the love of Art, young artists need support too.

The "Love of Art" Fund grant is a vital source of support for me, addressing the multifaceted needs of an artist like myself. This grant will enable me to nurture my artistic growth in three essential areas: emotional and community support, mental and expert guidance, and financial backing.

I've already begun to push my creative boundaries by transitioning my watercolor work to larger paper (22" x 30").

This process requires courage and trust in my abilities, as I adapt to using larger brushes and more paint on an expansive surface. To further refine my skills, I'll be seeking mentorship from a local artist who can offer valuable insights and guidance.

This summer and fall, I'll have the privilege of participating in two workshops with renowned water marbling artists Regina and Daniel St. John of Chena River Marblers. These workshops will allow me to explore new techniques and challenge my approach to abstract watercolors. I'm excited to experiment with innovative methods and perspectives, literally and figuratively turning my art upside down.

I'm deeply grateful for the "Love of Art" Fund grant, which will empower me to pursue these artistic endeavors. I look forward to sharing my progress, insights, and creations with you throughout the year. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm.

What does this mean for us here at Creative Jam Art Co.? Stay tuned for our announcements about future water marbling workshops and an artist talk with Marlo.
